After a little struggle with technology and a 480Mb file upload because we wanted to be able to show you the film in HD, the winning video by Gold Cost film maker Kieren Curry is now up on the festival website and you can watch it in high definition directly on Vimeo.

Not to be confused with the ‘Underwater Photo and Video Shootout Competition’, the the fourth inaugural ‘Marine Visions’ Art Competition was a fantastic opportunity also for those who cannot make it to Christmas Island to display their work in the lead up to and over the course of the festival and be in the running to win over $2000 of great prizes sponsored by Frog Dive Gear and MadFish Wines.

Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s Underwater Festival. With 34 entrants it was not an easy feat to be placed and it was great to see that the winners were an even mixture of locals and fly-in visitors to Christmas Island.

Whale sharks everywhere

Mathieu Meur has been over to test the waters of Christmas Island and gain some local knowledge for showing you the best possible ways to photograph Christmas Island underwater during the festival.

A nice Christmas present on Christmas Island when they spotted 4 whale sharks on boxing day !

Let’s hope they stick around and we’ll all get to swim and dive with them during the festival.
